We constantly wonder what older games that we enjoyed in previous generations would look like if they were released on the current generation of hardware. Occasionally, developers answer this question by releasing remakes and sequels to classic games, whether it be something recent like in the God of War Collection, or something much older, like Bionic Commando or Splatterhouse. Rarely, if ever, do we wonder how (only sometimes "if") new games would have been done on older hardware. Eric Ruth, under the name PixelForce, is looking to answer that question with an NES "de-make" of Left 4 Dead.
On the eve of the release of Left 4 Dead 2, playing the original Left 4 Dead might be the last thing on your mind. And while it's not freely available yet -- Ruth is looking to release a playable version of the game you see in the video above in early January 2010 -- this de-make of Left 4 Dead already looks like an impressive project. Running at a 256x240 resolution, complete with 16 colors and a 4 sound channel soundtrack, the game contains all five special infected, the five maps from the four campaigns, and all four playable characters. Not too shabby of a project considering that it's being done by just one person in Ruth.
